Islamists Damage Giant Ancient Buddha
-Ben Quinn
Islamist radicals in Pakistan have attempted to destroy an ancient carving of Buddha by drilling holes in the rock and filling them with dynamite.
The Buddha dates from the seventh century and was considered the largest in Asia, after the two Bamiyan Buddhas which were destroyed six years ago by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Respect for others, their beliefs, and artifacts all seems to be sadly lacking in the world today.
I can't help thinking that the broken face of Buddha pictured here could easily be a non-radical mosque...or a Hindu Temple...or a Jewish synagogue...or me...or you...
These are not a friendly or tolerant bunch...but because they are a lot more unified and single minded of purpose than the free world, they appear with more strength and momentum than they really have. It was the same in the US when the Moral Majority tried to assert itself. For a while it appeared they had some momentum, but it was really because more liberal minded people had better things to do than write angry letters to advertisers. Complacency was damaging in the past, but can be disastrous in the present!
