Stark Media Bias

Israel Must "Cease" While Palestinians "Fire" - Ricki Hollander

Palestinians have violated [the November 26th cease-fire] on a near-daily basis, launching over 65 Kassam rockets. For a month, media coverage of these steady violations remained limited...

It was only when Israel announced it would allow pinpoint attacks against rocket launchers that the media sprung into action, running AP headlines and story leads holding Israel responsible for "threatening" the supposed cease-fire.

"Israel to Renew Attacks against Gaza Rocket Launchers, Puts Truce at Risk" blared a headline to an AP article in USA Today. The story becomes newsworthy only when Israel can be blamed for trying to protect its citizens.

Sad, and unfair, if true. I will have to believe it is, as I do not have the time to research it, but it sounds plausible, if not completely that one sided.

Quite true. i read a lot of MidEast material. CAMERA hit the mark on this one.

Media sympathy for Israel ending in 1967, when Israel had the audacity to defeat multiple Arab armies in 6 days. Somehow the press perceives Israel as the "neighborhood bully" [quoting Bob Dylan's sarcastic song title].

Little Israel's existence depends on never losing a war.

Lyrics to Dylan's excellent song can be found at:

Yes, it's a well written song. As for the bully analogy. The problem is, whenever preemption is used, the risk of being seen this way is real. For Israel, bombing rocket launchers, or other countries nuclear industries have been, possibly, view as no alternatives. But you are always left with the thought "What if it wasn't the way Israel said." America's war in Iraq actually hurt Israel's cause, because it can now be pointed out that, even when everyone just "knows" that a country is readying itself with WMD, it can turn out that "everyone was wrong". What I find interesting, is that the US, in the last 4 yearsm, has done so much to harm Israel's security, from demonstrating that preemption is not a good option, to aiding the ascension of Iran, to destabilizing Iraq, yet there are still supporters of Israel that also still support the Bush administration. Go figure.

There is hope for Israel--her prophets tell of their Messiah coming to rescue her from overwhelming enemies (Zechariah 12-14). Israel's existence therefore depends not on her ability to win every war, but on God's ability to keep His promises. I think Isaiah 52;13-53-12 and chapter 62 should give them hope.
