Capturing the MidEast in short soundbites: poignant reflections by people who understand the complexities of the Middle East. My philosophy is: "less is more." You won't agree with everything that's here, but I'm confident you will find it interesting! Excepting the titles, my own comments are minimal. Instead I rely on news sources to string together what I hope is an interesting, politically challenging, non-partisan, non-ideological narrative.

Abbas' true colors
Abbas: Aim guns against Israel
Appealing to Palestinians to avoid civil war, Abbas said: “We are all one people regardless of differences of opinion. My top priority is to preserve national unity...rifles should be directed against the occupation.”
Defending his call to use weapons against Israel, he added: “We have a legitimate right to direct our guns against Israeli occupation."

Poisoned rhetoric, and poisoning to his cause as well. He treads a fine line; needing to rally the citizens, many of which clearly feel this way, from supporting Hamas, which feels even more strongly about it. But there is only so much that can be ignored, and in his haste, Abbas may be biting the only hand that can help him hold onto his people and their future.
