Oklahoman Editorial: U.S. Should Support Israelis Against Hamas
As Israel continues to respond to rocket attacks launched from Hamas-controlled Gaza, we offer some unsolicited advice to a fellow democracy and ally: Go all in. Finish the job.

Moral Clarity in Gaza -Charles Krauthammer
Some geopolitical conflicts are morally complicated. The Israel-Gaza war is not. It possesses a moral clarity not only rare but excruciating. Israel is so scrupulous about civilian life that, risking the element of surprise, it contacts enemy noncombatants in advance to warn them of approaching danger.

Israel has but a single objective in Gaza - peace: the calm, open, normal relations it offered Gaza when it withdrew in 2005. Doing something never done by Turkish, British, Egyptian and Jordanian rulers, the Israelis gave the Palestinians their first sovereign territory ever in Gaza. Gaza's Iranian-sponsored rulers turned it into a terror base - firing rockets unceasingly. Since Hamas' raison d'etre is the eradication of Israel, there are only two possible outcomes: the defeat of Hamas or the extinction of Israel.

I suppose the argument is whether or not the Israeli state should have been created in the first place, and I confess I do not know enough about the people, the land, or the thousands of years of history to offer any opinion there. I will say, however, that I agree with the Oklahoman: Israel is the only Middle Eastern state to offer its enemies fair warning about their bombing, and they have made it clear that they are not looking to do anyone injury, only destroy the bombs that shell them constantly. I say go all in and blow up every last shell. I fear it will not bring peace, but at least they'll have a few weeks of quiet.
Thank you for your comments. i'm so glad you like the Oklahoman editorial.
Actually, if historic precedent is any guide, an action like the Gaza incursion is likely to be followed by relative quiet...while not "peace" in the sense you meant it, it is as close as we can probably get right now [until the jihadists are defeated].
i pray that as you gather info on the formation of the Jewish State, you will conclude that Israel, despite the neighborhood it's in, is indeed legitimate...and a fabulous idea.
Oh, for a good resource on the history of this conflict, Google the following:
"What Really Happened in the Middle East" and Aish.com
You'll find a 10 minute video primer, which you may enjoy.
