Capturing the MidEast in short soundbites: poignant reflections by people who understand the complexities of the Middle East. My philosophy is: "less is more." You won't agree with everything that's here, but I'm confident you will find it interesting! Excepting the titles, my own comments are minimal. Instead I rely on news sources to string together what I hope is an interesting, politically challenging, non-partisan, non-ideological narrative.

The Politically Correct Ban Sacha Baron Cohen from Oscars
SACHA BARON COHEN BANNED FROM OSCARS -Nikki Finke
The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has pulled actor Sacha Baron Cohen‘s tickets from the 84th Academy Awards. This means he is banned from attending the Oscars even though he is an Academy member and one of the stars from Hugo, Paramount’s 11-nominated movie and Best Picture contender.
The reason is that a proposal reached the Academy for Baron Cohen to strut the Red Carpet in full costume as his title character in the upcoming Paramount comedy The Dictator.

Let him march down teh red carpet in full uniform dont ruin the fun
Agreed :}
He is there for Hugo and these awards are not for the purposes of promoting your latest motion picture. The fact that he would be on the red carpet could help his new picture but that is the extent of it. Also I have been seeing conflicting reports about whether he is actually banned or they just told him his plan is banned and he will be too if he insists. If an actor was portraying bin Laden in a new movie I am not sure anyone would be fighting for his rights to attend in full costume and promote his picture on the red carpet of the Academy Awards.
But according to reports, several actors & actresses have come to these red carpets in costume, promoting their work. Seems odd that they'd pick this one to stop. Sounds like politically correct crud from our Hollywood friends.
From what I can tell the others who came in costume did not broadcast their intent first, which he apparently did in order to gain as much publicity as he could. Maybe Cohen just needed to keep this under wraps and make his grand entrance---without being banned but without the press expecting this of him either.
Okay, he's a publicity whore. So what? That describes most of those Hollywood egos.
Tell me truthfully that you don't think it had anything to do with fear of jihadi reaction. Or political correctness.
I don't know. You raise an interesting point but in looking at this I see he was not allowed to present at the Oscars as Borat, which he requested, and then chose not to attend. Rolling Stone reports he will be allowed at the Oscars in character. Perhaps the public supported this and they relented. I have to admit as of this response I am thinking possibly you and I have given this more time and attention than it merits!
True! I really wanted to show the cheesey trailer. My wife did not think it was funny however.
